Last day in NY + dinner back in Boston (Sunday update)

I'm a little behind on posting, but yesterday's eats were so good that I just have to post some pics and reviews. I'll try to make it as brief as possible. So here it goes...

BRUNCH

For our last day's meal in NY, we headed to Schiller's for brunch. My sister lives in such an awesome neighborhood filled with unique restaurants. I'm glad they do a lot of dining out (especially brunching) because we would never have found this place on our own and it was incredible! After about a 25 minute wait we were seated.

I got a cup of coffee and some water. Both were so cute I just had to take a picture :)

(I was going to make a joke that I started with some vodka, hehe).

Onto food... My sister ordered their bread basket. I only had a tiny bite of the fruit & nut bread and a little tiny bite of the chocolate bread, but again, I just had to take a picture of this beauty. Just look at it! She couldn't wait for me to take a picture and dug right in... :P

I have never seen a bread basket like this! Impressive stuff!! She said she planned on finishing it up that day. Very, very doubtful that that's humanly possible. There were a lot of goodies in there, and these are not mini pasties - this is full sized stuff!

For my food I ordered the Croque Madame. For those of you who have never tried this genius invention (I haven't until yesterday) it's basically an open faced ham and cheese sandwich, baked and topped with an egg (the Croque Monsieur is sans the egg). Here is my giganto plate! Hmm, I had a lot of gigantic foods this weekend :D

This was absolutely unbelievable incredible! I could not get over how amazing it was. Seriously! I very rarely get this excited about non-chocolate foods. A.mazing! I ate the whole thing minus a few bites my husband stole from me. It kept me full for most of the day... well that and the rest of the cookies/banana pudding I've consumed on the bus ride home.

So yes, as referenced above, my lunch was the rest of the sweets purchased the day before. My husband and my sister and her boyfriend took a few bites of each, but I finished them off.

DINNER

When we finally got to Boston I wasn't hungry. This was about 6 hours after the brunch, but I was snacking on the cookies throughout the day. I considered skipping dinner altogether but after a few hours of wondering around the house, it just felt weird not to eat. I wanted a salad, but we had no groceries at home. So we spontaneously decided to go to a restaurant in our apartment building, Burton's Grill. Ahh, we were still in vacation mode I guess. We've been to Burton's a bunch of times... you just can't beat the location! I checked out their menu on line and was happy to see the beet salad - chopped red beets tossed in mustard vinaigrette, layered with goat cheese, onions, micro greens and candied walnuts. Sounded perfect! (well except for the onions but that could be easily modified... or so I thought) I decided I'd add some chicken to the salad and make a meal out of it.

When I ordered it without onions, the waiter said they prep it in the morning and because of the elaborate tower presentation the onion is premixed. I was so dissapointed and told him that was the reason I came to the restaurant and asked him to see the chef could make it fresh for me. He did!!! Now that's great service! I was so happy, especially after finally getting it and tasting it. It was exactly what I was craving. Light and refreshing but still very flavorful! I couldn't have asked for a better ending to this weekend's eats. Oh yeah, I also had a glass of wine with dinner :)

Here is the beautiful salad tower with grilled chicken. Yum!

I was so happy with this experience at Burton's that I think we're going to start going there more often, especially when it gets very cold out and we get super lazy :)

And that's that! Now back to regular blogging. I'll start a new post with today's eats.
